Hey Reader! 👋 I put together a list of 10 incremental hands-on exercises for AWS S3: https://swapnilagarwal.com/posts/cloud-sense-in-practice (hmu with your scores!) Alright, this is a going to be rant. There's someone, let's call them A, who asked on how to showcase technical complexity. They had good project ideas as well. But when we talked again a few months later, their resume still contains basic CRUD apps! I mean, pick a side:
There's no time shortage as well. When I probed deeper on why they started a seemingly complex project but didn't complete it yet, this came out: "This project is so easy I don't want to do it." Aaargh! I get it. You have figured out all the unknowns. But until you complete it and put it out there, how will anyone else know you're capable? They are not mind readers na! Nobody has the time or interest to go deeper and find your true skills. If it doesn't come across in the first glance, you're probably going to be swiped left. And the cycle continues. The onus is on YOU to showcase technical complexity and not come off as a toy project. Take this as the north star and push through the projects over to the finish line. I've given them a deadline to build 2 strong projects in a month. Do you think they will be able to push through the boring parts? Let's see. I'm rooting for them but beyond a point, you have to get out of comfort zone. In other news, I tinkered with my playdate to build something for personal use:
Slots are open for career clarity calls on a FCFS basis. As a rule, I don't do urgent calls. Urgency makes us take bad decisions, so don't wait till things get messy at work! Folks that submit their context now will get reached out on 11th Sept. 💚, |

Hey Reader! 👋 The 1st edition of FTS went amazingly well. Here's the recording. We had senior engineers from Nvidia and Microsoft share their feedback and experiences as well. If you'd like to get in early in the 2nd edition of FTS, hit reply to sign up before we make it public! Remember D? If not, search for "7 YoE, $40/hr, Social Media FOMO" in your inbox. D took the project ideas we discussed seriously and has been working on them for over 5 months now. One of the projects they demoed was...
Hey Reader! 👋 I hosted an AI hackathon yesterday where I had a lot of fun revealing the scores latent-style (with proper tech tools)! The response was so great that I might do another later this year. Hit reply if you wanna participate. In our inner circle weekly meeting earlier today, I got to know some brag-worthy things of a member which they weren't doing justice to while talking about it. I pushed them to double down on it, compared two different ways of saying the same thing...
Hey Reader! 👋 I just discovered Bandish Bandits. Binged S1 over the weekend. Absolutely loved it! Continuing my observations from the career clarity calls I'm doing (all slots taken for this month, folks that submit their context now will get reached out in sept): Meet G. The entire conversation revolved around them trying to make a case for doing a masters to get out of their current low-paying tech job and me trying to convince them not to go for it unless you want to settle there itself....
